Department of Dermatology

As one of the most prestigious departments in China, Department of Dermatology of the Second Hospital affiliated to Xi’an Jiaotong University was established in 1937. Its founder was Prof Xianqi Jian from Peking Medical College. During 80-year development, many distinguished professors, such as Dr. Weitong Liu, Dr. Furen Liu, Dr. Yunshan Deng, Dr. Boxun Li, Dr. Hanqing Xu, Dr. Shengshun Tan, Dr. Zhenhui Peng, et al, have contributed to promote our department to be one of the most famous departments in China.

The department has been the teaching center for dermatologists nationwide since 1960s. It is an awarding point of master degree since 1986 and of doctoral degree since 1998. In 1999, it was authorized as advantage specialty in Shaanxi; in 2007, listed as one of National Key Disciplines (Nurture) by the Ministry of Education; in 2012, approved the National Key Medical Center by the Ministry of Health of China; in 2013, became a member of cosmetological evaluation organization of Chinese Medical Association Dermatology Branch; in 2016, became Shaanxi Clinical Research Center of Hereditary and Infectious Skin Disease. We created one national core medical journal Dermatology and Venerolog.

Founded in 2011, the Department of Dermatology of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University has over 100 practitioners (including 54 dermatologists), 38 beds, and over 520,000 outpatients per year from all over China. Some excellent dermatologists with oversea training experience have already been the leaders in some dermatological fields. Among them, 2 were awarded New Century Outstanding scholars by the Ministry of Education; 2 with Prize for The Outstanding Contribution; 5 with Outstanding Doctors by Dermatologist Branch of the Chinese Medical Association; 4 won the Shaanxi Youth Science and Technology Award.

The department consists of clinic, in-patient ward, cosmetic laser center, surgery center, and laboratory (including pathology, mycology, immunology and basic research center). Besides treatment of common, difficult, severe skin disease, we set up specialized clinic for rythema lupus, severe acne, cutaneous ulcer, hereditary skin diseases, eczema, alopecia, vitiligo and psoriasis. In the past decades, researchers have conducted researches on psoriasis, lupus, bullous disease and skin malignant disease including melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, which were funded by "211", "985" Projects and National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). We have published over 180 SCI papers in well-known academic journals such as Lancet, J Am Acad Dermatol., J Invest Dermatol, Brit J Dermatol, J Eur Acad Dermatol Vernoral etc. In summary, we have developed into one of the top hospitals of dermatology diseases in China.
