Department of Critical Care Medicine
Department of Critical Care Medicine was founded in 2009, one of the earliest government authorized departments in critical care in Shaanxi province. The department is equipped with 15 beds and covers an area of 1200m2. The department has advanced equipment including 15 bedside monitors, central station, various ventilators, low-energy biphasic defibrillator, blood gas analyzer, invasive and non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring system, bispectral index monitor, and blood purifier. 12 physicians with qualifications in critical care rotate for 24-hour coverage of the department, alongside 44nursing staff. The department leads a team of experienced professions, including one clinical researcher, two professors of critical care medicine, one associate professor of nursing, four attending doctors, and 19 nurse practitioners. Among them, there are three Ph.Ds and four Ph.D candidates, eight doctors with master degree of medicine. Additionally, they served as committee members of Chinese Medical Association, Chinese Medical Doctor Association, and Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine. The department is also the leader of Xi’an Medical Association of Critical Care Medicine and the Xi’an Society of Critical Care Nursing. Under the leadership of Prof. Xiaochuang Wang and Nursing Director Li Wang, medical and nursing staff contribute their skilled care in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, emergent intubation, mechanical ventilation, invasive and non-invasive bedside monitoring, bedside hemodynamic monitoring, intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation, continuous renal replacement therapy, plasmapheresis treatment, hemoperfusion, cardiac and pediatric perioperative support. Our staff were supported by 11 national or provincial foundations. They have published 50 papers, including 30 papers on Critical Care Medicine,Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol,Int J Cardiol,J Physiol,J Biol Chem,Eur J Neurol. They also compiled 9 teaching materials including publications of People’s Medical Publishing House. Two Ph.D and MD superviors devote a portion of their practice in postgraduate education for 5 PhD student and 14 master students. Nursing education includes providing standardized training for intensive care in Shaanxi province which trains more than 80 ICU specialist nurses every year. Moreover, we have been awarded many honors, such as Young Scientific Talent of Shaanxi Province, Young Science and Technology Award of Shaanxi Province, The third Young Research Award of Chinese Medical Association of Critical Care Medicine, Young Investigator Award of the 28th Great Wall, first prize of Shaanxi University Science and Technology Award, the youth talent support program of Xi’an Jiaotong University and Shaanxi Province.
