The Department of Obstetrics and Genecology

The Department of Obstetrics and Genecology was founded in 1937, the earliest clinical medical discipline in Northwest China for modern higher clinical education of obstetrics and gynecology. The department is dedicated to provide comprehensive high quality, patient-centered care and improve the health of women and their children through various clinical research programs. The department is a comprehensive discipline including patient care, medical education, and scientific research.

1. Discipline Basis

The department contains 150 beds and provides outpatient service for gynecology, obstetrics, eugenics, genetics and reproductive endocrine. Our department has a robust medical team, including 25 physicians with senior titles and 20 with doctor’s degree.

The department covers various specialties: gynecology (common gynecology, gynecological tumors and pelvic floor dysfunction), gynecological endoscopy, obstetrics, reproductive endocrine, and ultrasonic examination. In recent years, our clinics have treated patients more than 18 million in annual. The total annual number of surgery is more than 6000, and the total number of hysteroscopy examination is 5000-6000 annually.

The department was approved the master's degree authorization in 1981 and the doctor's degree authorization in 2003. There are 3 doctoral supervisors and 12 master tutors in the department. Not a few faculties occupy important positions or are editors at national, provincial, and municipal academic institutes of medical magazine.

1) Clinical features

Genecology

Gynecological endoscopy, gynecological tumors, pregnancy trophoblastic disease, pelvic floor dysfunction and infertility are our provincial edge specialties due to their earlier establishment and quick development. Thus we can achieve accurate diagnosis and good therapeutic effect especially on the diseases like cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, trophoblastic tumor, uterine leiomyoma, endometriosis, pelvic pain, ovarian cyst, uterine prolapse, tension urinary incontinence, functional uterine bleeding and infertility.

Obstetrics

The department has obvious edges in the diagnosis of pathological obstetrics and emergency rescue of acute and severe expectant patients. We have treated more than 3000 maternal patients annually and we have the green channel for the acute and severe maternal patient in our province. We focus on receiving abnormal, difficult, severe maternal patients in our province, and we have been authorized for Emergency and Severe Treating Center of Obstetrics in Shaanxi province.

Minimally Invasive Technology

Since 1997, our department took the lead in carrying out in hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery in Northwest China, and has educated many gynecological doctors to master endoscopic technique for many other hospitals in the northwest region. Our department also has hosted the international conference of minimally invasive technology (Asia-pacific gynecological endoscopic society 2007 Xi 'an meeting) and international high level meetings such as AAGL and SLSetc. In 2011, our department was authorized the 4-level Gynecological Endoscopic Surgery Training Base of the Ministry of Public Health, and it is the only endoscopic surgery training base in Shaanxi province to bear the training task of all the national doctors who will to operate endoscopic surgery. We have extensive academic contacts and exchanges with the United States, France, Australia, Britain, Japan and Hong Kong China, and endoscopic institutions and medical school of Taiwan, China. In 2012, our department became the World's Obstetrics and Gynecology Center of Diagnosis and Treatment of Pelvic Pain of Endometriosis in Northwest China.

Gynecologic endocrine

The specialty covers ovarian function decline, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, endometriosis, uterine adenomyosis, dysmenorrhea and premenstrual tension syndrome, amenorrhea, hyperprolactinemia, abnormal menstrual abnormalities, reproductive function, disease, infertility, PCOS .

Eugenics

In 1978, the genetic laboratory has been founded. Meanwhile, the outpatient service of eugenic was established for genetic disorders of prenatal diagnosis and prevention and control.

2) Teaching

Our department has undertaken the job of teaching for doctoral and master graduate students, undergraduate students, international students, refresher doctors and the standardized training doctors. We have been rated as advanced teaching and research section, and plenty of professors have been rated as prominant teachers. We have gained many awards in the teaching contest in the department and the university. By now, more than 200 doctoral and master students have graduated, including more than 10 international students. We have published more than 30 articles of teaching papers and we have completed 4  audio-visual teaching materials of the Ministry of Health.

3) Scientific Research

In recent years, we hosted 5 national natural science fund items. At the same time, we undertake more than 30 national and provincial scientific research projects. We gained more than 10 provincial and municipal scientific research achievements, and published more than 200 scientific articles, in which 40 were SCI articles.
