Department of Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear medicine is a leading-edge medical discipline that applies radionuclides to diagnose and treat diseases. Formerly known as the Internal Medicine Function Room, it was renamed as Isotope Room in 1971. In 1984, it was officially established and rename as the Department of Nuclear Medicine.
Our department now has 3 chief physicians (professors), 3 deputy chief physicians (associate professors), 5 resident physicians, 12 technicians, 23 people in total, among which 2 are doctors, 8 masters.
Our main medical services include:
1. In vitro analysis: thyroid hormone test, sex hormone test, renin-aldosterone test, urinary iodine test, and so on.
2. Function room: thyroid iodine-uptake rate test.
3. ECT imaging: functional imaging of all body organs.
4. Nuclide therapy: hyperthyroidism and differentiated thyroid cancer treatment by iodine 131; Dermatological diseases treatment (scarring hyperplasia, skin hemangioma, etc.), tumor bone metastases treatment by 89-strontium, and 125-Iodine particle therapy which is to be carried out.
5. Yunke therapy: apply Yunke (99-technetium phosphate) to treat hyperthyroidism, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and other diseases, with safe and good effect and no obvious side effect.
In 1985, our department introduced the Philips ECT imaging equipment in Northwest China firstly. In 2001, we upgraded equipment to SPECT of GE. In early 2013, SPECT/CT, which can perform whole body function and tomography examination, was introduced. In 2007, Roche's electrochemiluminescence detector was applied in the detection of hormones such as thyroid hormone, sex hormone, and renin aldosterone.
The department is responsible for nuclear medicine course for 5-year, 7-year, and 8-year medical students.
In terms of academic research, many practitioners in our department are serving as the standing committee member or deputy director of Provincial Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Society, the Provincial Anti-Cancer Association, Provincial Health Association. Up to now, we has gained 9 research funds at the provincial level, 4 second or third provincial prizes, 2 departmental grades, and published 5 academic monographs and nearly 100 papers. We are also being awarded the title of “Advanced Group” and “Model Window for High-quality Service” in our hospital.
The department has 3 thyroid specialized clinics and 1 thyroid disease specialized clinic. In 2015, the clinic visit broke 48,000 times, and reached 50,000 in 2016, ranking high in the whole country. More than 1,000 cases of refractory hyperthyroidism are treated each year, and more than 200 difficult cases are consulted. Iodine 131 treatment of hyperthyroidism is the main treatment of thyroid specialized clinic with a total cure rate of over 95%. The department has accumulated rich clinical experience after decades from over 10,000 hyperthyroidism patients. Our Professor Song Changyi is deeply trusted by patients due to his combined treatment of TCM and western medicine for thyroid disease, and Professor Wang Shejiao is very experienced in the treatment of pregnancy complicated with thyroid diseases.
