Department of Rehabilitation Medicine integrates clinic, scientific research, rehabilitation and teaching together. It has clinics of encephalopathy, cerebrovascular rehabilitation, rehabilitation physiotherapy, pain of neck/shoulder/waist/leg, parenchyma and hospitalization ward. The overall strength of the discipline has reached a high level both in Shaanxi province and in China because of its advanced medical equipment, strong technical force, and complete treatment methods. Director of the Department is Professor Qiaojun Zhang, a renowned neurologist and neuro-rehabilitation specialist. There are 2 professors, 2 associate professors, 7 attending physicians, 18 rehabilitation therapists, 2 doctoral students, 7 postgraduate students and 17 nurses. It is an experienced team with comprehensive technology, unity and cooperation, continuous progress and innovation. We have rich experience and unique method in the diagnosis and treatment of common nervous system diseases, such as dizziness, headache, cerebrovascular diseases (transient ischemic attack, cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage), myelopathy (myelitis, myelopathy), Guillain-Barre syndrome, myasthenia gravis, epilepsy, myopathy, myositis, multiple sexual sclerosis, various encephalitis meningitis, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, as well as of a variety of critical and difficult neurology diseases.

The department also has an independent and perfect professional team and world-class advanced rehabilitation equipment. The department is able to carry out high-level, high-demand clinical rehabilitation work. Rehabilitation therapy covers: neurological diseases, orthopedic diseases, children's diseases, various pain, chronic osteoarthropathy and various functional disorders. For example: dysfunction in stroke, head injury , spinal cord injury, peripheral nerve dysfunction, degenerative neuropathy (such as Parkinson's disease, motor neuron disease and Alzheimer's disease, etc.), various osteoarthritis, muscle strain, contusion, motor function recovery after fracture and surgery postoperative motor function recovery, cervical and lumbar pain (cervical spondylosis, lumbar spondylosis), scapulohumeral periarthritis, tenosynovitis, bursitis, pediatric muscular torticollis, etc. Rehabilitation therapy includes assessment of function, physical agents therapy, exercise therapy, occupational therapy, swallowing therapy, ADL training, speech therapy, orthotics configuration, etc. Rehabilitation medical equipment includes intelligent robot for upper and lower limbs, EMG evoked potential instrument, repetitive magnetic stimulator, static and dynamic balance system, weight-loss gait training system,electric multi-functional traction treatment bed, electric multi-functional treatment bed and multi-functional elevating electric standing bed. MOTOmed Intelligent Rehabilitation Trainer and Bedside Lower Limb Rehabilitation Trainer, Neurological Rehabilitation Therapy System, Vitalstim Deglutition Electric Stimulator, Deglutition Physiotherapy Instrument, Hand-eye Coordinated Rehabilitation Comprehensive Training, Aphasia Computer Assessment and Treatment System, Limb Intelligent Feedback Rehabilitation Training System, Hand Function With training system, Virtual scene simulation training system, gait analysis system, and various advanced physiotherapy equipment. Guided by the advanced theory of rehabilitation medicine, we adopt the "Team Work" mode for patients who need rehabilitation, and form an individualized rehabilitation treatment plan, so as to maximize the improvement of function and self-care ability in patients, helping them return to society. 80% hemiplegic patients can stand up even walk after training, and more than 90% patients with dysphagia can be treated. Many severe stroke coma patients recover sober, some paraplegic patients can walk with orthosis when being discharged from hospital. Here, we truly realize the integration of “rescue - treatment – rehabilitation” and improve the patient’s life quality.

At present, our department is the director unit of Shaanxi Rehabilitation Medical Quality Control Center, the evaluation organization of rehabilitation project for the disabled people in Xi'an and the head unit of Xi'an Disabled Rehabilitation Expert Group. All the medical staff in the Department will be united, cooperative, pioneering and enterprising, to achieve the goal of "patient satisfaction, leading position, first-class" with excellent medical ethics, first-class technology, treatment quality, and service for patients.
