Biotherapy Center
Introduction: National & Local Joint Engineering Research Center of Biodiagnosis and Biotherapy (Short for Biodiagnosis and Biotherapy Center), led by professor Zongfang Li from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, was supported by The National Development and Reform Commission from 2012. The center mainly focused on the basic research and clinical application of biological technologies related to diagnosis and therapy for serious diseases, such as malignant tumors, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, infectious diseases and genetic diseases. The center aims to develop new methods and approaches of biological diagnosis and therapy involving individualized gene detection, cell therapy and gene therapy, and promote the clinical transformation of laboratory bench technologies and the commercialization and industrialization of new technologies and approaches. The center has more than 40 permanent staff, including 12 professors or associate professors. 90% staff possess a doctoral or master degree. The center owns various experimental equipment, such as CliniMACS cell sorter, BD Canto II flow cytometer, GE DeltaVision live cell workstation, Agilent 6460 liquid chromatograph/mass spectrometer (LC/MS), Illumina MiSeq II Sequencer, ABI 3500Dx sequencer, GE Biacore X100 Biological macromolecule interaction analyzer, Bio-Rad QX200 digital PCR system and biological chip hybridization system. The center has established a standard biobank with high-quality and detailed clinical information. The biobank can accommodate 500,000 biological samples of different types such as serum, plasma, tissue samples, paraffin samples and cells. Additionally, the center also conducts individualized gene detection and circulating tumor cell (CTC) detection, which can provide the basis for the early diagnosis, dynamic monitoring and personalized medicine of multiple tumor types.
Main missions:
1. Basic research and clinical application of biological technologies related to diagnosis and therapy
2. Clinical testing projects such as individualized gene detection and circulating tumor cell detection
