Department of General Surgery

General Surgery is a key medical discipline in Shaanxi Province, and it is one of the first batch of awarding points of master and doctoral degree. After 60-year development and construction, it has gradually developed into a famous discipline with strong technical strength and at first-class medical level, especially in Northwest China, under the leadership of Prof. Qin Zhaoxuan, Prof. Ji Zongzheng, Prof. Li Yiming, Prof. Chen Xi and other academic leaders. It has formed a team of scientific research, medical and teaching with profound academic knowledge, rigorous academic research, courageous development and reasonable structure. At present, there are 10 chief physicians, 9 associate chief physicians, 2 co-chief superintendent nurses, and 1 associate researcher. 80% doctors have doctoral degree and 2 have postdoctoral work experience. It has accomplished more than 10 scientific research projects, and has undertaken more than 100 scientific research projects at the national, provincial and municipal level. Also, it has received more than 600 million scientific research funds from all levels. Our department has trained 65 postgraduate students and 53 doctoral students.

We are currently equipped with imported argon gas knife, microwave knife, TV laparoscope, fiber gastroscope, fiber duodenoscope, electronic choledochoscopy, electronic colonoscopy, radiofrequency therapeutic apparatus, shock wave lithotripter, intravenous laser closure, and large medical equipment such as instrumentation, liver tumor 3D digital imaging surgery planning system. We have carried out various operations including organ transplantation, and formed our own advantages and characteristics in the treatment of portal hypertension, thyroid disease, hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumor, acute severe pancreatitis, cholelithiasis, and gastrointestinal tumors. Laparoscopic surgery now accounts for more than half of all surgeries and is available for almost all general surgeries. In recent years, the department has carried out 2-3 new clinical technologies every year, which won unanimous praise from patients and is quite beneficial for society.

In recent years, general surgery has vigorously promoted discipline construction and talent echelon training. We attaches great importance on the comprehensive and balanced development of medicine, teaching and research; strengthenes academic cooperation; sends backbones of departments to learn and communicate with well-known medical centers in China and abroad; and invites many domestically and internationally well-known experts for academic lectures and surgical demonstrations. We have successfully held several provincial and municipal academic conferences, which improves our social influence continuously.

In the past five years, more than 20 doctoral and master students have been trained in general surgery. Many of them won national scholarships and became the backbone of many medical or scientific research units in China. The department has 10 national patents (including of invention and of utility model), and published more than 100 papers (including 35 indexed by SCI).

All our members adhere to the spirit of “Saving lives, healing injuries, patients first; solidarity and innovation; truth seeking and dedication”. We stress on the construction of medical ethics to build a harmonious relationship between doctors and patients. Furthermore, we will forge ahead consistently, and improve its popularity in Shaanxi and in the world. Hepatobiliary pancreatic and splenic surgery:

Portal hypertension, benign and malignant liver tumors, liver hydatidosis, cholelithiasis, biliary tract tumors, biliary dilatation, pancreatic tumors, severe acute pancreatitis, pancreatic duct stones, ampullary carcinoma, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura.

Gastrointestinal, anorectal and hernia surgery:

Gastrointestinal benign and malignant tumors, gastroduodenal ulcer, inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal obstruction, anal canal disease, abdominal wall hernia.

Thyroid, vascular surgery:

Hyperthyroidism, benign and malignant thyroid tumors, hyperparathyroidism, peripheral arteriovenous vascular disease, etc.
