Department of Geriatric I (Geriatric Neurology)
The Department of Geriatric Neurology (Cadre Ward I) is a professional department which mainly focuses on the treatment of nervous system diseases and is once reputed the honor of “Advanced Group of Healthcare in Shaanxi Province”. At present, there are 1 professor, 3 associate professors, 5 attending physicians and 2 residents, among which 2 are doctors, 7 postgraduates, 1 professional acupunturist, 1 rehabilitative physician and 1 EEG physician. The EEG physician, An Haixi, has obtained international EEG certificate, becoming the only physician with this certification in Shaanxi province. All nurses have bachelor or junior college degree of nursing.
The department has 40 beds available and admit over 1000 patients annually. Meanwhile, expert clinic and specialty clinic will be set up. Our department targets at the diagnosis and treatment of cerebral vascular diseases (cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage and transient ischemic attack, etc.), Alzheimer disease, Parkinson’s disease, myasthenia gravis, polymyositis, motor neuron disease, multiple sclerosis, Guillain-Barre Syndrome, epilepsy, dizziness, headache, anxiety, depression and other nervous system diseases. At the same time, we have rich clinical experience on senile common diseases such as hypertension, coronary diseases, diabetes and chronic bronchitis.
We also focus on rehabilitation of nerve functions. In treatment of acroparalysis combined nervous system diseases, laloplegia, swallowing dysfunction, gatism, facial paralysis and neck and shoulder pain and ischialgia caused by cervical spondylosis and scapulohumeral periarthritis, drug therapy, as well as acupuncture, neuromuscular rehabilitator and other rehabilitators are applied with accurate exercise guidance to promote nerve function recovery, from which obvious efficacy is seen and most patients have recovered. In terms of treatment of dizziness, insomnia, vascular dementia, cerebral arteriosclerosis and posterior circulation ischemia, cerebrovascular function therapy is applied, showing significant effects. Regular EEG, visual EEG and 16 leads 24-hour ambulatory EEG are equipped, contributing to greatly in the diagnosis of epilepsy, assessment of antiepileptic drugs, and auxiliary diagnosis of encephalitis, intracranial tumors and cerebrovascular diseases.
All faculties in this ward work cooperatively and actively. Except for doing well in clinical diagnosis and treatment, they advocate to medical scientific researches and have won 2 second prizes of Shaanxi Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 second prize of University Science and Technology and 2 second prizes of Technology Progress Award of Xi’an Jiaotong University. We have presided 5 scientific projects at provincial level, 2 projects from TCM Administration, 1 project from Xi’an Jiaotong University, and several hospital projects. Over a hundred scientific theses have been published.
