The Department of Rheumatology & Immunology of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University was founded in 2017. The department has been established into a multicenter discipline with medicine, education and research responsibility, offering numerous education and training opportunities for medical students of Xi’an Jiaotong University and doctors undergoing standardized resident training.

All physicians in our department have a doctoral or master degree, including 1 deputy director, 2 attending physicians, and 5 resident physicians. Many of them have studied abroad. Professor Li Xueyi, our current director, has several academic posts including committee member of Rheumatology and Immunity Doctor Branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, standing committee member of Shaanxi (Province) Society of Clinical Immunology and so on. Undertaking and participating in many grants from National Natural Science Foundation and others, Li has published more than 30 papers, 13 of which were indexed by SCI.

The department consists of clinic, inpatient, laboratory and biologic agent treatment centers. The department focuses on the early diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of autoimmune diseases such as critical or severe systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjögren's syndrome, Behcet's disease,vasculitis, scleroderma, dermatomyositis/polymyositis, fever of unknown origin and so on. Clinical research covers from application of superb microvascular imaging (SMI) to clinical stage and treatment effect of Takayasu arteritis (TA) evaluation. Immunoadsorption therapy is applied for severely ill patients such as those of severe systemic lupus erythematosus, severe dermatomyositis/polymyositis, ANCA related vasculitis, scleroderma renal crisis (SRC), catastmphic antiphospholipid syndrome (CAPS). Our research focuses on pathogenesis and new treatment strategy of rheumatoid arthritis, and the role and regulatory factors of immune metabolism in the pathogenesis of rheumatism diseases.

Our department is also dedicated to provide personalized treatment strategies to patients and strengthen the management of chronic diseases to help patients maintain a high life quality.
