The Department of Osteopathic Research was established in 1988 by Professor Chen Junchang, a nationwide well-known orthopedic expert. It was awarded the A-level laboratory of Xi'an Jiaotong University. The research office mainly undertakes the clinical and scientific research of three wards and other related departments in our hospital. In recent years, with the unremitting efforts of several generations, the Department of Orthopedics of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University has flourished and is in the forefront of the country in the field of joints and spines. It is the current Key Clinical disciplines of the Ministry of Health in China and one of the first batch of key medical disciplines in Shaanxi Province. The Osteopathic Research Laboratory has also made considerable progress and participated in the completion of several nation-level projects.

The Department of Osteopathic Research has:

1. Neuroelectrophysiology Laboratory:

We have internationally advanced electromyography evoked potential instrument, which is mainly engaged in the application of neuroelectrophysiological techniques in orthopedics. We are the first hospital to utilize evoked potential monitoring technology in spinal surgery in China. And the evoked potential change of lumbosacral radiculopathy was awarded the second prize of Shaanxi Science and Technology Progress Award in 1997 and the third prize of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Health in 1999. Undertaking the National Further Medical Education Project “Epilation Potential Technology in Orthopedic Applications”, we had held numerous national workshops.

2. Bone Density Measurement Room:

We are equipped with MEDIX-90 dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry instrument, one of the most advanced bone density analysis instrument in the world, from MEDLINK, a France company. It can detect bone mineral density and bone mineral content in all parts of body and diagnose different types of osteoporosis rapidly and accurately. The accuracy of bone calcium content detection in all body parts is quite high. Not only diagnosing osteoporosis, this instrument can also monitor the treatment effect of fracture. This device is the first choice for the osteoporosis diagnosis and abnormal distribution of bone density, providing the most accurate diagnosis for patients with osteoporosis.

3. Osteopathic Treatment Room:

Cervical and lumbar traction chambers and Chinese medicine iontophoresis treatment room.

4. Orthopedic Laboratory:

We can complete experiments related to cell culture and modern molecular biology.
