Department of Cardiovascular Medicine
The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine was founded in 1958 and is one of the earliest departments to develop interventional diagnosis and treatment technology in Northwest China. In 1979, the department was confirmed by the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council as one of the first batch of master degree authorization site. It is now the state key clinical specialty, doctoral degree authorization discipline and post-doctoral research center. Currently, the department contains more than 200 healthcare providers, including 6 doctoral supervisors and 14 master supervisors. In the past five years, we have held more than 20 scientific research projects, with more than 40 SCI papers published, gaining 2 second prizes and 1 third prize at national and provincial level. We have trained more than 20 doctoral students and over 30 postgraduates.
The torch of dedication has been passed on director by director. Cardiovascular medicine is developing vigorously and has made great progress under the leadership of the current subject director. At present, there are 4 specialized clinics, including for heart failure, rehabilitation, atrial fibrillation and coronary intervention follow-up, with over 50,000 visits per year. It has developed its own advantage in diagnosis and treatment of cardiomyopathy (Keshan disease) and heart failure, arrhythmia radiofrequency ablation, interventional diagnosis and treatment of complex coronary artery disease, permanent pacemaker implantation, interventional treatment of congenital heart disease, hypertension and cardiovascular clinical pharmacology, among which the rapid arrhythmia radiofrequency ablation therapy has been in a leading position both domesticly and internationaly.
The Department has carried out the first his-bundle pacing operation, the first scar-related atrial flutter and intracardiac ultrasound guided atrial fibrillation ablation operation in Northwest China successively, and was the first one to improve his-bundle pacing CRTD in Shaanxi Province. It also took the lead of the treatment of refractory heart failure by ultrafiltration and established cardiac rehabilitation center in Shaanxi. All of these earnes it the position of one of the first batch of AF center construction units in China and one of the first batch of provincial key cardiovascular clinical training projects in Shaanxi Province.
The Department will integrally move to Daming Palace Branch in 2018, which will own more than 200 beds(in Phase I),4 wards, 1 CCU ward, 3 catheter rooms, 1 hybrid catheter room and 1 cardiac rehabilitation center. With elegent environment, our department will become one of the largest cardiovascular departments in Northwest China.
Dr Zheng Qiangsun, director of Department of Cardiology, chief physician, Professor, doctoral supervisor, is currently a Standing Committee member of Chinese Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing Branch, Cardiac Rhythm Society of the Chinese Medical Association and Chest Pain Branch, the chairman of the Shaanxi Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing Branch. In the field of cardiac electrophysiology, especially in the field of clinical and basic research of atrial fibrillation, we are the first one to carry out epicardial radiofrequency maze therapy for atrial fibrillation successfully, which showed excellent efficacy. In recent years, the department has been devoted to the electrophysiology and ablation of scar-related atrial tachycardia and atrial flutter, reaching the leading position both in China and over the world. All these efforts made it the winner of the “Outstanding Contribution Award” of cardiovasology in China at the 40th anniversary of Cardiovascular Association of the Chinese Medical Association.
