Guangyao Kong, Ph.D., Professor of the second affiliated hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University. He received a biochemistry and molecular biology doctoral degree from Nankai University in 2011. From 2011 to 2016, he did his postdoctoral training in McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research in the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After the postdoctoral training, he joined the second affiliated hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University as a research professor. His key research interest is mainly focused on the pathogenesis and therapy of myeloid malignancies induced by RAS mutations. His research will determine the roles of key signaling proteins and transcription factors in normal hematopoiesis and hematopoietic malignancies by creating and analyzing conditional knockout or overexpression of oncogenic or tumor suppressor genes in mice. Over the past few years, his research systematically elucidated the role of oncogenic RAS proteins in myelodysplastic syndromes/myeloproliferative neoplasms. His studies have been published in prestigious journals in leukemia/biomedical field, such as Journal of Clinical Investigation, Blood, Leukemia, and Science Advances. Dr. Kong was supported by a subject of National Key Research and Development Project and 4 National Natural Science Foundation of China including an Outstanding Youth Science Fund in the past five year. Now, he is still collaborating with Professor Jing Zhang in the University of Wisconsin-Madison to further explore the mechanisms that how the hematopoietic stem cell function be dysregulated and transformed into leukemia stem cells in mouse model and patient samples. A better understanding of these mechanisms will offer the potential to yield new target for myeloid leukemia therapies.
